The RTOC Specialist II/III/RTOC Engineer III has the following:

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitors the daily progress of active drilling rigs:
    • Provide guidance, recommendations, and parameter changes to rigs and ops team
    • Identify failures trends and alert ops/engineering teams to reduce or mitigate risks
    • Ensure road maps are followed / evaluate risks of variances and proper implementation.
    • Ensure proper SOPs are followed / management of change is in place for deviations
  • Facilitate communications between geology, service providers, engineering, and ops teams.

  • Perform real time hydraulics, torque and drag, vibrations analysis modeling.Provide recommendation to team.

  • Track, evaluate, manage, and automate KPI’s.  Work with Rigs to optimize performance and address gaps.
  • Work with Geo-steering team to address issues and maximize percent in target as well as operational efficiency.

  • Develop new ideas for monitoring / optimization tools and process improvements. 
    • Facilitate development and implementation of tools into RTOC
    • Incorporate machine learning where possible.
  • Complete failure analysis and support addition of learnings into monitoring software functionality.

  • Evaluate and use drilling control automation systems and functionality.

  • Monitor anti-collision and provide updates to engineering / ops teams.

Tertiary Job Responsibilities:

  • Aide in standardization of drilling process around best practices
  • Provide feedback on implementation of new technology
  • Update well monitoring dashboards through PiVision, Spotfire, Matlab and other softwares.


  • Directional / horizontal well drilling experience preferred
  • Landmark software experience preferred (or equivalent)
  • Wellview experience preferred
  • OSiSoft Pi, Spotfire, Matlab, Java, or other programming experience preferred
  • Familiarity with water and oil based drilling fluids preferred.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Highly effective communication skills with ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work with multi-functional team
  • Highly analytical – passion for using data to make better decisions and optimizing processes
  • Proficient verbal and written skills

  • Experience with MS Office.


  • Bachelor's degree in math, science, business, or other related field required
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred (mechanical, chemical or petroleum preferred)
  • 2 years or more of drilling-related experience required / 4+ years in drilling ops and/or engineering preferred.
