The Landman I/II (coal) is responsible for the coal approval process for gas well clearing. Responsibilities will include the following:
Attends internal meetings to establish and coordinate priorities with Planning, Drilling, Land, Construction and Permitting Groups;
Reviews maps and researches various databases to determine coal and mining conditions including active/abandoned mines for gas well locations, entire pad sites, well and water line routes and properties for due diligence;
Interprets mine and mapping information from coal companies to align drillable locations for maximum development;
Communicates & negotiates with coal company personnel and corresponds with state permitting officials, as necessary;
Reviews, verifies and evaluates consultant information on site build, well & water line routes to assess the potential to encounter acid producing rock (APR);
Provides coal information to construction, geology, drilling, and environmental groups, as needed;
Prepares and distributes coal approvals and APR reports;
Prepares well, pipeline and exhibit maps as needed;
Maintains coal projection mapping databases and relays information to GIS for posting;
Reviews and evaluates coal title;
Ability to read and interpret surface and underground coal mine maps, topographical and farmline maps, well plats & diagrams, site plans, and cross sections.
Ability to understand coal mining processes, methods of mining, and mine permitting.
Ability to use various coordinate systems including converting between systems.
Working knowledge of tax maps, lease maps and property deeds preferred.
Strong organizational skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
High degree of initiative, attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness.
Ability to manage projects, follow through on assignments both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to juggle multiple priorities, work in a stressful environment and deal with time sensitive issues in an effective manner.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
AutoCAD and/or ESRI ArcGIS experience preferred.
Knowledge of SharePoint preferred.
Ability to understand and review title opinions.
Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in geology, land management, mining, or related field, or
An equivalent combination of education and experience that includes coal/geology/land related experience.
2+ years of experience
Previous experience in surveying, land, coal permitting/reclamation work helpful.
